A Beginner's Guide to Blogging for Profit
How to Start a Blog in 3 Easy Steps
Whether you are completely brand new to blogging, or just want a fast and efficient way to launch a new blog, look no further than Google's excellent free service called, Blogger. Starting and running a website truly could not be any easier. Creating your new blog requires only three simple little steps: open a free account, name your blog, and choose a website template.
With Blogger, you can be up and running in less than 10 minutes from
now. Once you've signed up, you are permitted to publish multiple blogs
from the same account. Therefore, there is no need for you to register
again. Plus, Blogger does make available a comprehensive help
center that will teach you everything you need to know to get the
most out of your blog, step-by-step.
Another big bonus in using Blogger is the ease with which you can embed revenue-generating ads into your web pages, directly from Google Adsense. Google Adsense is simply the largest and most successful contextual advertising program on the Internet. No comparable program pays out nearly as much in total commissions to its affiliates, and Blogger provides direct access with only a couple clicks of the mouse.
While there are many bloggers consistently making very good money using nothing but free hosted blog solutions such as Blogger, admittedly, a large number also eventually grow frustrated with the limitations of such services. The later group would argue that the limited ability to customize available web templates is too restrictive when attempting to brand oneself.
Although I highly recommend startng with Blogger to learn the ins-and-outs of blogging, it would be remiss not to warn you of some potential headaches. If branding is an important part of your business goals, be advised that transferring all your blog content to another platform later can often be quite difficult and frustrating.
I've personally found enough flexibility in Blogger's customize options, along with techniques like URL redirect and masking, to allow for some effective branding. But, keep in mind that I tend to be less demanding in this regard.
If you need more flexibility in a blog, then WordPress just may be the answer you're looking for. These very popular blogs offer many more features, but the learning curve is also much higher. Fortunately, there are a few ebooks floating around the Internet that reportedly do a pretty good job at teaching you how to set up and run a profitable WordPress blog. The two most popular of these products are WordPress Adsense System and WordPress Goldmine.
Whatever blog platform you choose, I would like to offer you some important advice - give some careful thought when choosing a name for your blog. Above all, try to make your blog's name memorable. It would also be nice if you can work in one or two keywords that clearly refer to the site's overall theme. But, the most important thing for you to remember is: The easier it is to recall your blog's name, the easier it will be to lead traffic to your site.
